Acupuncture – Restoring Your Health
Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world and it aims to restore and maintain health. A branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has been in practice in China for nearly 3,000 years, Acupuncture is based on the principle that 14 major channels, called meridians, flow through every human body. According to Acupuncture theory, a form of energy called Qi (pronounced "chee") circulates in these invisible meridians. Qi is necessary for all bodily functions. When the flow of Qi in these meridians is disrupted, Qi stagnates, and the body becomes unbalanced. This, according to Chinese Medicine, is when disease happens.
Imagine a freeway system. The freeways represent the meridians and the cars represent the Qi. A traffic jam can cause a lot of problems right? The same thing happens in the body. An Acupuncturist works to resolve the blockages of Qi through the use of needles. Acupuncture needles are inserted at certain points along the meridians to restore the smooth flow of Qi and thus bring the body back into balance.
What causes these blockages of Qi to happen? Our lifestyles, diet, and environment…the list could go on and on. In today’s culture, we are subjected to a constant barrage of stressors on a daily basis. This makes it very difficult for our body to perform at its most optimal level. Receiving an acupuncture treatment gives you a chance to be listened to and supported and it gives your body a chance to rest and restore itself to its natural state of health.
